Highlights and Delights
With mountains, lochs, rivers, forests and beaches, Angus is the perfect place for adventure.
Day 1 - Explore the Locations
Location 1: The Angus Coastline
There are lots of ways to explore the beautiful rugged Angus coastline.
For a gentle walk, head along the coastal path between Carnoustie and Arbroath, finishing at Arbroath Harbour with a just-smoked Arbroath Smokie.
Enjoy a boat trip from Arbroath Harbour to one of ‘The Seven Wonders of the Industrial World’ – The Bell Rock Lighthouse, which stands proudly on top of a deadly reef 11 miles out at sea.
Grab some lunch at one of the great cafes and restaurants in Arbroath, or pack a picnic and head to Lunan Bay. Work off lunch with a walk along the golden sand – look out for seals and even dolphins.
Location 2: Continue along the coast
Explore this corner of Angus further by getting on your bike and following the Angus Cycling Route around nearby Montrose Basin. This 20-mile route takes about three hours and you can stop off at Montrose Basin Visitor Centre or make a small detour to House of Dun, a stunning Georgian mansion.
On the way back to your accommodation, why not stop off at one of the local farm shops, which specialise in fresh, seasonal, local produce? There are several to choose from, including Milton Haugh between Arbroath and Carnoustie and Peel Farm, a short drive from Kirriemuir.
Day 2 - Explore the Locations!
Location 1: Outdoor Activities

Location 2: Horse Riding
That’s bound to have worked up an appetite so stop off for a quick bite to eat at one of the many top class eating places nearby. Can we tempt you with the Birkhill Inn, Howies Bar at Piperdam or Café Byzantium in the grounds of Monikie Country Park?
To finish off your Angus Adventure, how about horse riding or pony trekking? There are riding stables at Pathhead Equestrian Centre in Kirriemuir and Rowanlea Riding School near Carnoustie. Or if you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, Redwings Mountains is home to 90 rescued horses, ponies and donkeys – but wear wellies as it can get muddy!
