Migrations – A Field Study of Adversity Afternoon Artist Talk

14 May 2022, 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Migrations - A Field Study of Diversity

Artist Derek Robertson is a renowned wildlife artist and a well-known contributor to bird research in Scotland. Derek Robertson will be talking about his project, “Migrations” in which he travelled through the UK, Europe, and as far as the Middle East to create artwork that brought together the topics of climate change and refugee crises using the imagery of birds.

Volunteering in camps, staying with refugee families and teaching art classes in refugee schools, he was struck by the tragedy of people forced to take the same lines of flight as migrating birds. His paintings bring together the issues of climate change and refugee crises using birds as a metaphor for people, in their role as environmental indicators, in this thoughtful, sensitive and provocative body of work.

The talk is free but requires booking due to the limited places, please email forfarmuseum@angusalive.scot to book and for more information.
