This fun-filled three-day itinerary will ensure the whole family has a great time in Angus this autumn and winter. From parks and pottery to farms and fishing, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

DAY 1 – ARBROATH

Welcome to Arbroath

Day 1 begins in Arbroath, a traditional 12th century fishing town famous for its historic medieval abbey, stunning coastline, fishing heritage, and the Arbroath Smokie.

Arbroath Abbey was founded by William the Lion in 1178. Today, it’s home to the Declaration of Arbroath in which Scotland’s nobility proclaimed their independence from England in around 1320.

Situated on the A92, 17 miles north of Dundee and 55 miles south of Aberdeen, Arbroath is easy to reach by car or bus. Arbroath also has excellent rail connections and is on the main Aberdeen to London line. Keen cyclists will enjoy the magnificent coastal path that takes you from Dundee right into Arbroath town centre. Find out more about the cycle network.

Travelling around Arbroath is easy, whether by car, bicycle, public transport or on foot. There are charging points for electric vehicles throughout the town, including the harbour area. Location 1: West Links

There’s lots of family fun to be had at West Links Fun Park in Arbroath.

Children will love the different attractions on offer for all ages, including an adventure playground, tennis courts, mini racing cars, crazy golf, foot golf and a paddling pool.

Ideally located on the seafront, families can also enjoy a stroll along West Links Beach which can be accessed directly from the park.

There’s plenty on offer on rainy days too, with Jumping Joey’s soft play centre, Pleasureland indoor funfair and a cinema just a short walk away from the park.

Location 2: Lunch at The Bell Rock Restaurant

The Bellrock is a family owned long established fish & chips shop offering excellent family friendly service.

The takeaway menu features a variety of delicious golden fish crispy suppers, authentic Italian pizzas, flaming grilled burgers and much more.

The lunchtime buffet is served every day in the restaurant and is a great way to sample lots of different tasty dishes.

Potter Rhoney is a paint your own pottery experience on Arbroath’s High Street, and is a quirky and welcoming must visit place for all ages.

The extensive menu provides a huge variety of choices as well as great value with their meal deal menu and special offers including two for one fajitas on Fajita Thursday. Kids eat free on Sundays!

DAY 2 – FORFAR

Welcome to Forfar

Visit Forfar on Day 2 to experience a traditional market town full of history and memorable experiences. Forfar is home to a local delicacy known locally as the bridie, a hearty meat and onion pastry.

Location 1: Newton Farm Tours

Spend the morning experiencing daily life on a Scottish farm and soaking up the tranquil, rural Angus landscape.

Newton Farm is a real working farm offering an award-winning, interactive and authentic farm experience to inspire young and old. You’ll be welcomed by farmers Graeme and Louise, who will introduce you to their animals and take you on a fun and educational tour of the farms. Their family has been farming here for four generations.

During your visit, you can hand-feed cows, sheep, goats and pigs. Collect eggs from the henhouse and enjoy the ‘Feeding Frenzy’ experience at feeding time.

And for the full, authentic Angus farm experience, take the friendly alpacas for a memorable walk or take part in the highland cow and alpaca experience (age restrictions apply). This includes hands-on grooming and feeding the farm’s highland cows and alpacas.

This is a truly memorable and unique opportunity to discover what daily life is like on a Scottish farm and where your food comes from throughout the seasons.

Newton Farm Tours

Location 2: Lunch at The Mill

The Mill, located just off the A90 outside of Forfar, aims to provide a welcoming home from home for visitors, serving simple, fresh and local food.

Their menus embrace the freshest produce from local suppliers making this the perfect spot for a light lunch. The lunch menu features a range of open sandwiches, salads, loaded fries and tasty sides.

Location 3: Forfar Indoor Sports

Forfar Indoor Sports is a multi-sports centre offering the opportunity for visitors to try Bowling, Curling and Ice-Skating, as well as Roller Skating and Pickleball.

Curling is one of the world’s oldest team sports, originating in the 16th century in Scotland when games were played during winter on frozen ponds and lochs. The centre was originally opened as a curling rink in 1989 and offers the chance for you to try your hand at this unique and enjoyable sport.

The sport of lawn bowls is the forerunner of curling, a tremendously popular winter sport, and Forfar Indoor Sports operates a six rink bowling arena.

If you want to enjoy some indoor skating, the centre welcomes skaters old and young. Experienced skaters steward the sessions so anyone who visits the rink can enjoy a skate in a relaxed yet safe environment.

Pickleball & Roller-Skating are a recent addition in the centre’s new modern all purpose hall. If you’ve never tried them before, come along and have a go!

Location 4: Dinner at the Corner House

The Corner House offer fantastic home cooked locally sourced food, in a a pleasant modem setting in the heart of Forfar.

They offer traditional Scottish fare and are well known for their home made food and their excellent all you can eat Sunday carvery.

DAY 3 – MONIFIETH

Day 3 starts in the Monifieth area. This charming coastal area offers much to see and do, including some unique outdoor experiences, beautiful country parks and country resorts to explore.

Your first stop, Piperdam Golf & Leisure Resort, is around a 35 minute drive from Forfar along scenic country roads.

Location 1: Forbes of Kingennie

Forbes of Kingennie Country Resort has everything you need for a memorable trip with the family, including golf, fishing, walking, high quality dining, a play park and even a maze. The resort also offers luxury self-catering experiences in a peaceful setting.

Book a fishing lesson for the kids, then grab some quiet time and a coffee whilst you watch from the veranda. Children can also try their hand at some golf on the putting green. The fantastic maze located within the grounds provides great outdoor entertainment for all ages, and there is a fun play park for younger ones too.

The two mile, family-friendly walk around the resort’s impressive grounds takes you alongside the nine hole golf course and fishing ponds. The walk has a slight incline but offers striking views over Dundee and the Angus countryside, so it’s worth the climb.

Based within Forbes of Kingennie, the Scullery Restaurant is a popular restaurant offering locally-sourced food and drink, including produce from the family farm next door.

Lunch at The Scullery Restaurant means tasty, hearty food and stunning waterside views overlooking the fishing ponds.

There are options to suit all tastes here, with something for everyone. The children’s menu has a great selection of tasty main courses and exciting desserts. There are vegan and vegetarian options available too.

Location 3: Piperdam Golf & Leisure Resort

Boasting two excellent golf courses, soft play and a whole host of indoor and outdoor activities for all ages and abilities, there’s something for everyone at Piperdam Golf & Leisure Resort.

Visitors can enjoy a round of golf, walk along the beautiful nature trail, enjoy a bike ride (bike hire available), or choose from a huge range of activities including archery, segways, axe throwing, tennis, crazy golf and foot golf.
