War Memorials in Carnoustie

Outlined below are the war memorials which can be found in and around the Carnoustie area in Angus.

Style: Sandstone semi circular wall with a convex wall in front of it. It is accessed by steps. The memorial is set in a garden. World War 1 names are set on the back wall and those from World War 2 are set in the lower wall. Attached to the rear wall, are two bronze plaques commemorating local V.C. recipients.

Unveiled on 31 October 1925 by the Earl of Strathmore.

Rest Garden completed on 7 June 1926.

Designed by James Prain Bruce, architect in Dundee.

Sculpted by Thomas Beattie, Edinburgh

Model was local soldier, Charles Crawford.

Carnoustie Dundee Road

Style: Rough hewn granite block and plinth with bronze plaque.

Memorial erected by the members of Erskine United Free Church in Shanwell Cemetary.

Carnoustie Shanwell Cemetery

Style: Sandstone monument built on a cairn style base, with a square plinth and column, surmounted with a cross. Names are duplicated on a polished granite slab for clarity.
